Ryan Plate is a very lean 6'4", 155 lb. right handed pitcher from Tampa, FL, from the 2005 class. He was a little nervous at the start of his four inning outing in Fort Myers, but after allowing hits to three of the first four hitters Ryan settled down quickly to shut out his opponents on 1 hit the rest of the way. Plate throws from a high ¾’s release point and almost comes over and around the ball like a screwball, giving him good tailing and sinking action on his 79-80 mph fastball. Plate’s curveball was 61-65 mph and he had a 68 mph changeup. Plate ran and swung the bat well for his size and looks to be a good athlete, which will help him improve in the future. He's someone to keep a close eye on. Ryan is an excellent student.

Ryan Plate -- Plate is a slim 6-4 junior right hander from Tampa who threw 4 innings at the World Underclass. He has a fundamentally sound delivery and an easy arm action with a standard ¾’s release point. Plate threw his fastball 78-81 mph with good boring action to right handed hitters, especially when the pitch was down in the zone. He also mixed in a curveball and change up, both in the mid-60’s. Plate will get stronger and improve his velocity but when he pounds his sinker low in the zone, he’s a very effective pitcher right now. Ryan showed athletic ability and good command of his pitches. He is also a very, very good student. Keep an eye on this highly projectable RHP.
