Ronnie Shaeffer is a 2008 C/IF with a 6'2'', 180 lb. frame from Garden Grove CA, who attends Pacifica HS. He has lean, athletic build that is attractive for a young catcher. Shaeffer is a solid young player with good tools, projectable ability, and a hard nosed style of play. He has chance to be a high level defensive catcher with good offensive abilities, and clearly that is a valued combination. With an easy swing, quick bat and short path to the ball, Shaeffer can handle quality pitching. He has a line drive swing and drives the ball from gap to gap, maintaining balance throughout. As he gets stronger and more polished, he looks capable of hitting for average and some pop at the college level and then possibly beyond. As a catcher Shaeffer also stood out. He is a good receiver with soft hands and an athletic set up behind the plate. His transfer is smooth and quick and he has lively actions, bouncing out of his crouch easily. Shaeffer has quick feet and a quick arm and his overall skill set as a catcher will rate very highly among all '08 high school catchers. His 2.04 pop-time has a chance to be the norm for him. Major D1 programs should have him high on their follow lists if they are in the market for a catcher.

Ronnie Shaeffer is a 2008 catcher from Pacifica HS in Garden Grove, CA, with a 6'1", 150 lb. frame. Schaeffer was one of the youngest players at the event, but he showed his tools well and was named to the Top Prospect Team for the Showcase. Defensively he has very good actions with quick feet on his throws and blocking balls in the dirt. Shaeffer sets up well behind the plate with good hands and receiving skills. He has projectable arm strength, and was accurate on his throws. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a slightly crouched stance with a lower hand set. Shaeffer has solid bat speed with a line drive swing plane, and has the hands and ability to hit to the opposite field. He showed this ability well during the showcase games when he drove a solid triple to right center field. Shaeffer has present tools that will continue to improve, and t will be fun to watch him over the next few years. He is a must follow, and is an excellent student.
