2005 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Rich Mourer is a 2005 RHP/1B from Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a 6'4", 225 lb. frame. He has a big and strong body with a low 3/4 release point. He throws a very heavy 82 mph fastball with good sinking action. His low release point makes it hard on the hitters because of the angle and movement on his pitches. Mourer's slider was flat at first, but it improved the more he threw. By the end he was getting sharp and late break on the pitch, and the potential is there for the pitch to be a big out pitch at the next level. His slider topped out at 74 mph, and he also mixed in a 75 mph change up. Mourer spins off to the first base side which affects his fielding position. With his low release point and fastball/slider combination, he is a solid college follow. Mourer didn't hit at the event.
