Relly Mercurio is a 2007 left hand hitting 1st baseman/outfielder from Bellaire HS, residing in Houston, TX. Mercurio has a strong, broad build with long legs on his plus 6'4" 210 lb. frame. He passes the eye test and still has room to fill out. Mercurio is an interesting tool set and was ranked #61 among PG National Top 100 position players. Left hand hitting physically impressive young hitters like Mercurio certainly are going to get many opportunities to impress both college and pro scouts alike. Mercuiro has good hands at the plate. He stayed inside the ball well and made a lot of good barrel contact. He certainly is strong and one thing that really stood out was his ability to hit mistakes very hard. There is a lot of raw life in his swing and body, it is just a matter of time before he puts it all together. As his timing gets better, he could really explode as a hitting prospect. Around the bag at first base Mercurio showed that he has good hands too. He moved well around the bag and looked quite comfortable. His feet are solid and his set-up was good. It can be expected that Mercurio will be an above average defensive first baseman, but his tools also fit well at a corner outfield spot. He ran 4.36 home/1st with a laser timed 6.86 60 yard time. With his athleticism and natural raw power and developing skill level, Mercurio is on the cusp of bursting on the scene as a top end prospect. He is a top D1 prospect and likely will get good attention from the area scouts this spring. His tools would be the type that can be sent out into pro ball and given a chance to develop.

Relly Mercurio is a 2007 1B/OF with a 6'4'', 210 lb. frame from Houston TX, who attends Bellaire. Relly has a big pro style body with a tall solid build. Relly moves well around first base defensively and looks comfortable doing so. He has nice defensive actions and has soft hands to make the picks necessary to play first base. Relly is a good runner (7.25) for his size which is indicitive of his athleticism. Relly starts with a straight balanced stance at the plate and uses a slight rock back load with a short stride. Relly looks very comfortable and confident in the box. He has raw power with strong hands and bat speed. Relly has plus power potential. Relly pitches from an overtop arm slot from a low effort delivery. He uses a short arm action and his arm works well. His fastball has some sink on it and his change-up is developing. Relly is a very good prospect and an excellent student.

Mercurio is a big, evenly proportioned 6-4, 210 lb left handed hitting first baseman from Texas. He has surprising mobility for his size and ran the 60 in 7.01 and showed very good range around first base on defense. You could tell his speed on the bases. Mercurio hits from a high handed approach with a big leg raise trigger. This might be a response to all the soft stuff he sees at the high school level but it leaves the impression that Mercurio is a little late to pitches. Mercurio showed raw bat speed and plus raw power on contact. He launched a few balls to left centerfield that carried a long way but was able to adjust his swing at other times and make good contact on tougher pitches. He's a promising young hitter overall who is just beginning to blossom. Mercurio said he hadn't pitched in a few years but wanted to take the mound for the last inning of the showcase and had some fun. He threw strikes with a 77 mph fastball and a 66 mph curveball. Mercurio is an excellent student off the field. Named to the Top Prospect Game.
