Rafael Reyes is a 5'11" 195 pound 2006 catcher, third baseman, and outfielder from Miami, Florida who attends Palmer Trinity High School. He has a taller frame with a thick core and lower half. Rafeal is a good hitter who stays inside the ball very well. He goes to the opposite field well with his line drive swing plane. He has good bat speed and shows good gap to gap power. He has a quiet approach and stays back very well. Reyes receives very well behind the plate. He sets up nice and wide and has very athletic actions behind the plate. He has a strong arm with a quick release. His best throw was at 70 mph and a pop time of 2.05. Rafael is a high level prospect with good projectable power who is also a good student.

Reyes is a solidly built 5-11 catcher from Miami. He hits from a spread stance with high hands and generates good bat speed through the zone. Reyes shows the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields and has also shown us some power potential in the past. He ran the 60 in 7.69 and threw 78 mph in catching drills with a best pop time of 2.09. Reyes obviously has plenty of arm strength and will have to continue to work on his quickness and release to lower his pop times. He’s a good receiver who is willing and able to block the balls in the dirt. Reyes father is a scout and he’s spent a lot of time around the game and it shows in his approach on the field.

He popped a 2.05 with good accurate throws. He has very quick actions and good blocking skills. He hits from a wide base with a pro style approach and good balance throughout the swing. Reyes is a right hand hitting junior catcher from Miami. His father is a scout and it’s obvious watching Reyes play that he has had good instruction and understands the game. Reyes was playing with a sore back at the Showcase and we may not have seen him at his best in some areas. Offensively, Reyes has a comfortable set up and does a good job of staying balanced and keeping his weight back. He has a good path to the ball and shows bat speed with some loft and nice power potential for the future. Reyes hit one ball off the left centerfield fence in games that showed he had some power now, too. Defensively, Reyes shows polished shifting and blocking skills. He threw well but his pop times were slower than one would expect, perhaps because of his back. We look forward to seeing Reyes play more in the future.
