Philip Kafka is a 6'2/188 2005 RHP/OF with good overall speed (6.85-60) and body life from Dallas, TX. As a pitcher, Kafka throws from a standard ¾ release point. His fastball is 77-80 mph, but Kafka has numerous mechanical problems that are limiting what his natural arm strength might be able to do. He falls off pretty severely to the first base side, landing on his heel and getting no finish towards the plate. Kafka’s breaking ball was 69-71 mph and has a big downer break that makes it a difficult pitch to hit at this level. Kafka has some hand strength with the bat in his hand, and hit some good line drives in batting practice. His approach at the plate is similar to his pitching in that he’s pulling off and getting little extension through the ball. He's very athletic and he has a good chance to develop into a pro prospect down the road. Philip is a good student with a high SAT score.

Kafka is an "05" RHP/OF from Dallas. At 6'1/185 he has a well conditioned body that has that MLB look. He's very athletic and runs very fast, 4.25 home to first and 6.85 in the 60. He has a nice strong accurate arm and good OF actions. At the plate he hits out of a closed stance with a small soft stride. He's under control but aggressive with some loft power potential. On the mound he was around 80 without tension. He showed a decent 11-5 breaking ball. Philip has a tendency to get back on his heel at balance point. If he corrects this he will improve a lot. He is a good student. We really like him as an outfielder.
