Ben Blanton is a 2007 LHP with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Alpharetta GA, who attends Chattahochee HS. He has a young, athletic body with some projection left. Blanton has a simple delivery and good balance. He does a nice job of hiding the ball from hitters and maintaining a good downward angle to the plate. Blanton started off throwing 84-85 mph but quickly settled into a consistent 82 mph, throwing 2-seam fastballs down in the strike zone and getting good consistent life. Blanton's breaking ball is a 73 mph slurve that he uses to spot around the plate and keep hitters guessing. We didn't see a change up at the showcase but Blanton throws one regularly when he's pitching in competition and it's a necessary part of his pitching style. Blanton will never light up the radar gun but he knows how to pitch and use his stuff to the maximum. He's had plenty of success at WWBA events the past three years and will continue to have success at the next level in the right program. Blanton is also an excellent student.

Ben Blanton is a 2007 left handed pitcher from Chattahoochee High School in Alpharetta, Georgia, with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame. Blanton has a lean and lanky body with room to grow. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a quick motion and delivery to the plate. Blanton's fastball topped out at 79 mph with good run and heavy sink to his arm side. He gets ahead of hitters quickly and then mixes in a 66 mph curveball that is very sharp and buckles hitters knees. Blanton also mixes in a changeup at 72 mph with very good action. Blanton works inside and outside at will with all of his pitches and shows good pitchability for a young lefty. He is a good athlete who is quick off the mound and can field his position. Blanton is also a very good student with a 4.0 gpa.

Ben Blanton is a 6-2, 170 lb junior left handed pitcher from Alabama. He throws from a high 3/4's arm slot with a short, quick arm action that gives some deception to the hitter. He has a consistent on-line delivery that enabled him to locate his pitches very well. Blanton's fastball was 78-79 with hard arm side run away from right handed hitters. His curveball had nice downer break to it. Blanton's deception and his command resulted in very few good swings off him. He fits the finesse left hander profile who can get outs and be successful despite below average velocity. We'd have like to have seen a change up but he probably has one in his arsenal for normal games. Blanton should add a couple mph's to his pitches through normal physical maturation given his solid delivery mechanics. Blanton is also an excellent student.
