Pedro Alvarez is a 6'2", 210 lb., third baseman from New York, NY. Alvarez had good actions at third base with soft hands and good footwork. He showed very good arm strength (88IF) with great carry. Alvarez is a very good left handed hitter with bat speed and strength in his swing. He uses his lower half well, and gets good extension on his swing. He shows present raw power that is only going to get better as he learns what pitches to drive. He is a patient hitter with a good idea of the strike zone. Alvarez ran a good sixty time (7.12) for his size, and does have quick movements. He has a great future and is a very good student who has signed with Vanderbilt.

Pedro Alvarez -- Alvarez is a mature bodied junior third baseman from New York with strength throughout. Alvarez put on a show in batting practice, hitting a couple balls out while showing professional level bat speed and loft power. He has an excellent load and coil and really gets his strength into his swing. During games, Alvarez looked very anxious to put on a show and was jumping out in front of the ball and hitting around it. He’ll learn with experience that he’s the type of hitter who can wait back on the ball and let it get to him and still be able to drive it hard to all fields. Defensively, Alvarez moves well for his size at third base and has big league average arm strength. He’s going to have to watch his body so he doesn’t get too big, but he has good athletic actions now. Pedro is a good student who should end up playing at a highest level college.
