Patrick Arnold is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Huntington HS, residing in Huntington, WV. He has a strong, athletic build with sloped, broad shoulders on his 6'1" 186 lb. frame. Arnold at times can be filthy dirty on the mound, particularly when his curveball is on. He was ranked #56 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and for college coaches, he is a top end talent that is likely headed for school. Arnold pitches from an over the top slot and has a long, quick arm. He gets to deep backside extension and has what can be classified as a power arm action, though not without some effort. His fastball topped at 92 and he pitched comfortably in the 89-90 range. Arnold tilts his fastball well into the bottom of the zone and had some downward life on the heater. He competed on the inner half very well against right hand hitters. His best pitch is his 72-74 mph curveball that at times is not doubt a hammer. Arnold gets tight spin on that pitch and plus downward bite. It is 12/6ish shaped and he can pitch with the deuce, using it for outs or strikes. It is a pitch that is effective versus either right or left hand hitters. Though he is a primary pitcher, Arnold can also swing the bat and some D1 programs would wise to offer him a chance to swing the bat in addition to pitch. He is aggressive and gets the barrel to the ball pretty regularly. Arnold is a top tier D1 arm and may get some draft interest this spring, surely he will get a few looks. However, as a pretty physically mature 6'1" righty, projection is not something that is in his favor, though that does not mean he will not gain some mph in the future.

Arnold is a strong and mature 6-1, 180 lb junior right handed pitcher from West Virginia. He has a broad back and well muscled legs. Arnold throws from a simple, balanced delivery with a compact, quick arm action. He maintains good height and downward angle to the plate from a high 3/4's release point. It's the kind of delivery and arm action you look for in a power pitcher. Arnold's fastball was 84-86 mph consistentlyand had some running life down in the zone. His out pitch was a 69-72 mph curveball that had a hard, power break to it. When Arnold threw his curveball for strikes, which was most of the time, hitters at this level weren't going to make solid contact. It's a potential strikeout pitch at the next level. We didn't see a change up from Arnold but this would be a nice pitch for him in the future. Arnold is a very good athlete who also shows prospect tools at third base. He uses his strength well to swing the wood bat and can generate bat speed and drive the ball. His athleticism is evident in his sound delivery mechanics. Arnold is a bright young pitching prospect who needs to be followed closely. He is also a good student.

Arnold is an athletic and projectable sophomore right handed pitcher from West Virginia. We saw him at the Southeast Underclass Showcase last August and were very impressed by his arm strength (Arnold was touching 85 mph before his sophomore year started) and his overall athletic ability. Arnold didn’t throw as hard in Fort Myers, pitching in the 81-82 mph range, but everything else was very solid. His arm was fast and tension free and his pitching mechanics very sound for a young pitcher. Arnold has a short, compact arm stroke and does a good job hiding the ball from the hitter and staying linear to the plate. His 69-70 mph curveball and 76 mph change up are good pitches, although he could get better speed differential between his fastball and change. As a position prospect, Arnold projects as a power hitting third baseman. He has some natural loft in his swing and generates good bat speed from a short, compact swing. For now, though, his future appears to be on the mound.

Patrick Arnold is a very exciting 2007 player from Huntington, West Virginia. He listed himself as a primary middle infielder, but he also performed well on the mound. Patrick's fastball touched 85 mph with a very quick arm and a "Jeff Weaver" type delivery. Patrick is strong for his age and is wiry loose with a very good down and through finish. His slight cross body stride adds to deception and late life, but does not hurt his velocity. His arm works well and he showed very good command of all pitches. Patrick maintains his arm speed on his off speed pitches and is really tough to pick up. At the plate he is a switch hitter. From the right side he shows very good balance and open to closed approach. He has good bat speed and good hand strength. Left handed, Patrick shows less balance and a more passive approach. Arnold still showed some ability from the left side and it could develop later. In the field Patrick showed very good arm strength, throwing 79 mph across the diamond, with nice actions that should continue to improve. Patrick is a good student.

Patrick Arnold -- Arnold is a young "05" infielder from West Virginia with a projectable athletic body. Arnold’s actions and arm strength in the infield were pretty smooth for a 15 year old, although he will have to work on his foot quickness to stay in the middle of the field. Arnold hits from an open stance at the plate and creates some bat head speed. He does pull off the ball some and will need to work on his drifting hand hitch to hit at higher levels, but the basics are there for Arnold to hit. Arnold also took a 2 inning turn on the mound and touched 80 mph with raw pitching mechanics. Patrick is an interesting athlete to follow and could end up being very good.
