2005 Unsigned Seniors Showcase
Belt is a 5-9, 168 lb switch hitting middle infielder from Georgia with good body life. He ran the 60 in a quick 7.15 on a slow track and was 4.37 down to first base from the left side. He showed some arm strength during infield workouts at 81 mph. Belt’s infield actions were smooth and balanced with a quick release on his throws and solid accuracy. He looked like he was very capable of playing the middle infield defensively at the college level. Belt had a nice showcase offensively as well. He went 4-5 during the two showcase games while showing an intelligent and polished offensive approach. Belt’s swing from the right side is very short and compact and he will hit with a very high contact ratio. His left handed swing is a bit smoother and more flexible and should generate a bit more power than his right handed swing, but he’s a legit switch hitter who should have success from both sides. Belt also pitched 3 innings at the showcase, showing a 79-82 mph fastball and a good, loose arm action. He had occasional sharp break on a low 70’s curveball and did a good job throwing strikes and attacking the strike zone. Overall, Belt is a solid performer with tools and skills across the board that should play well at the college level.
