Nick Mitchell -- Mitchell is a big bodied junior first baseman with a particularly strong lower half. He looks like he could have a future in football with his physique. Mitchell hits from a wide stance with small, soft stride. He has a bit of a hand hitch, which lengthens his swing, but Mitchell uses his strength to generate very good bat speed. He can hit them a long way when he makes solid contact. Mitchell showed some agility for a big man on defense and showed good arm strength in the workout. He also threw 2 innings and did well. He topped out at 80 mph with nice quiet mechanics and a 64 mph curveball that had decent break to it. Nick is a good student.

Nick is 6'-3" and powerfully built. His best tool is his bat and raw power! He does an excellent job of letting his hips start his swing, in fact he has a nice power type approach to hitting. Only an "05", Nick has good power now and it should definitely improve as he gets older. Runs well for a big guy and even pitches a little. Don't be fooled, it's his bat that makes him most interesting.
