Nathan Thompson is a 6'3", 180 lb. catcher from Stoneville, North Carolina. Behind the plate his pop times ranged from 2.08-2.20 with a top velocity of 75 mph. Nathan has good arm strength with average transfers and footwork. With some room to improve, look for his pop times to improve even more as he works on his mechanics. Nathan caught a number of bullpens under the UNC stands during the rain delays and showed very soft, sure hands and good shifting ability. We like his desire to stay at the ballpark the extra hours, too. Nathan is a right handed hitter with a crouched stance at the plate, and shows a very short bat path with strong hands and no load approach. He has good balance in his swing with slight stand up movement at contact. Nathan has room to add more strength and improve his power projection. He's very interesting and an excellent student.
