Michael Mazzarella is a 2006 catcher/first baseman from Bristol, Rhode Island, with a thick and strong build at 6'2", 220 pounds. He hits from a narrow stance with a small hand load and a long stride. He has a line drive swing plane with solid bat speed, and a high one handed finish. He makes solid contact with a dead pull approach. He is a big, strong kid with huge power potential. He ran a 5.63 home to first. Defensively, he showed very good arm strength at 78 mph with on-line and accurate throws. He receives the ball with soft hands and he has a solid glove. He popped a 2.10. He has a big frame with room to add strength, and he has a chance to be a top level prospect for 2006. Michael is also a good student.

Mazzarella is a big bodied 6-2 junior catcher from Rhode Island with good strength. He threw 72 mph in the catching workouts with a best pop time of 2.14. He’ll need to work on his overall lower body life to get the most out of his defensive abilities and on the bases. Mazzarella hits from a narrow stance with a preload set up and a long, hard swing. The ball jumped off his bat well in batting practice when he got to show his strength, although he tends to pull off the ball at times trying to lift it. Mazzarella is a good student.

Michael Mazzarella is a big, strong 2006 catcher from Bristol, Rhode Island, with a 6'1", 220 lb. frame. He hit out of an open stance, and showed good balance throughout his swing. Mazzarella showed some good power with the wood bat with good bat speed. He holds his hands too high which causes him to wrap his bat around his head. He did at times get jammed during BP, but with a slight correction in his hand positioning, he will hit at the collegiate level. Behind the plate he has soft hands with solid glove to hand transfers. His pop times were as good as 2.04. He does not move or get to his feet as well as he could. Mazzarella's bat will be playable at the college level.
