Matt Watson is a 2009 C/OF with a 6'0'', 180 lb. frame from Portland ME, who attends Deering. Named to Top Prospect Team. Watson has a good body with a lean athletic build. Defensively, Watson moves well behind the plate and sets up well. He is a good receiver with nice hands. Watson makes accurate throws and has developing arm strength. At the plate, Watson starts with a slightly open stance and high hands. He has a quiet approach in the box and maintains good balance through his swing. He generates bat speed and has some present power. Watson showed the ability to hit the basebal to all fields with authority and has more pullside power. He looks to keep his hands inside the baseball and his hands work well in his swing. Watson is aggressive in the strike zone and handled good left handed pitching well. He has more power potential in there as he learns to hit with more leverage. Watson is an outstanding student.

Matt Watson is a 2009 C/IF from Deering HS, residing in Portland, ME, with a 5'9" 170 lb. frame. He has a compact build with some present day strength, though as a young player (freshman at this time) he still has a lot of physical development ahead of him. A left handed hitter, Watson has a short trigger and basically a Sean Casey-type approach to swinging the bat. He starts open and stays open and employs an inside out swing. Watson is aggressive and has pretty good bat speed. When on-time he shows some life at contact, suggesting that some potential power is there. Watson does have some length in his hand load and then again through the ball. His left handed bat has a chance to be a positive at the catcher position. On defense Watson sets up well and presents a nice target. His hands show promise as a receiver and he has some strength in those hands, suggesting the ability to handle upper level velocity in the coming years. His throws were around the bag and his release will get quicker as he continues to develop. Watson is a freshman with good ability. He appears to be a young player with a chance to bring offense to the catcher position. He certainly should be followed by Northeast/East college programs, at all levels, because at this point it is unfair to slot him to a particular level of college play, which won't happen for nearly four years.

Matt Watson is a 5'9" 170 pound 2009 catcher and infielder from Deering High School in Portland, Maine who was named to the Top Prospect Team. He has a good build with good strength. Matt hits with a narrow stance and has a quiet approach while staying balanced. He has loose hands which he keeps high and he stays inside the ball very well. He drives the ball very well and has a very nice swing. He has a short stroke and tracks the ball very well. He can really turn on the ball with his quick hands and has a nice finish. He is a very aggressive hitter who will continue to improve as he matures. Behind the plate, he continues to improve and should get better the more he catches. Matt is a very aggressive hitter who was one of the best 2009 hitters at the event.
