2004 Northwest Top Prospect Showcase
Matt Pagni is a 2005 right handed pitcher/third baseman from Sparks, Nevada. At 6'1", 155 lbs., he has a large frame and lean build with a lively body, and room for added pounds. Pagni threw 2 innings during the Showcase, and handled himself well against the competition. He had good balance and rhythm in his delivery, and moved the ball in and out well. He also maintained his velocity out of the stretch. Pagni has a small breaking ball with the ability to throw it for strikes, and show it early in the count. He shows quick, agile actions at third base, and looks very comfortable at this position, and knows what to do when he gets the ball. Pagni is an aggressive defender with leadership qualities and he comes to play. We like his energy and the tempo to his game. Pagni stands tall in the box with a compact swing, and showed good contact to all fields, and has the projection to put up some good offensive numbers in the future. Matt is a very good student.
