Matt Abraham is a 5-9, 180 lb left handed hitting senior catcher from Illinois with good present strength. He showed solid defensive skills in both workouts and in the games. His best workout pop time was 2.08 with 72 mph arm strength and he was consistently in that area between innings and in games as well. Abraham is a willing and energetic blocker who shifts well and works hard behind the plate. He has some lateral quickness. Abraham handled the pitchers at the showcase well and was comfortable receiving the ball. At the plate, Abraham has an upper cut swing with some back side collapse to get his bat going. He creates some raw bat speed but is hitting with his hands under the ball, which makes his contact inconsistent. He has the strength and bat speed to drive the ball with some adjustments to his approach. Abraham is a good student.
