Luis Tovar is a 2006 shortstop from Kofa HS in Yuma, AZ, with a 6'3", 172 lb. frame. He has a lean and athletic body with wiry strength and quick actions. Tovar is a 6.70 runner. He shows very quick feet and quick actions in the field, with plus body control. Tovar's arm strength is a click short of ideal but he gets rid of the ball and makes accurate throws. His best tool is his bat. Tovar has plus, plus bat quickness with a very balanced approach. He can wait a long time on the ball and still get the bat head through and drive high velocity fastballs. His hands really work well and he has a very good and well timed weight shift to his front side. He has a line drive swing plane right now that can get the ball into the gaps but watch out if he learns how to lift the ball. Tovar is a very good all around talent with lots of upside who is a gamer. He is also a good student who has signed with UC Irvine.

Luis Tovar is a 2006 shortstop/third baseman from Yuma, Arizona with a very projectable athletic body at 6'2", 170 pounds. He hits from a balanced stance with a small stride and quiet hands. He has a level swing plane with a nice high finish. He shows hand strength and creates good bat speed with a short compact stroke. He has a line drive approach and showed good gap to gap power. He is a good hitter and has the potential to put up big power numbers with added strength. Tovar is very athletic and ran a 7.09 in the 60, on a soft track. He has very good first step quickness and he ranges well in the middle infield positions. Tovar has a good glove, and he can make tough plays look easy. His arm seemed stronger during the games than the workout, and he showed good arm action. He is a high level prospect that will draw a lot of attention from scouts over the next year. Luis is a good student.
