Lance Brown is a 2007 RHP with a 6'2'', 185 lb. frame from Mount Ayr IA, who attends Mt. Ayr HS. He has an athletic build with good strength, especially in his lower half. Brown has a rotational delivery with a full back turn and a long, extended mid 3/4's release point. His mechanics and his command were much more consistent that we've seen in the past, which reflected in the quality of his pitches. Brown's fastball was 84-87 mph with lots of run and sink into right handers. His best pitch this outing was his 74 mph curveball, which had a very big and sharp sweeping break. Brown mixed in a couple of split changes as well and is working on a straight change. He looked poised and in command the entire time. Brown has signed with Iowa Western CC.

Lance Brown is a 2007 RHP with a 6'2'', 185 lb. frame from Mount Ayr IA, who attends Mt. Ayr HS. He has a strong athletic build and has added plenty of size and strength during the last year. Brown throws from a full balanced delivery and does a good job hiding the ball during his windup. His arm action is long in back and comes through at a mid to low 3/4's release point with some effort on release. His release point tends to wander up and down a bit and is the cause of occasional command problems. Brown gets excellent hard boring life on a 86-88 mph fastball and hitters were consistently late on this pitch, even when it was over the plate in fastball counts. Brown's curveball topped at 71 mph and showed sharp spin and bite at times, although he was most inconsistent on his release point with this pitch. We didn't see a change up, although we have seen him throw a split change in the past. Brown's movement and deception make him especially hard to hit when he stays down in the strike zone. Brown has signed to attend Iowa Western CC.

Brown throws from a mid 3/4's release point with a upper body rotational delivery that hides the ball well from hitters. He gets very good sink and running action on his fastball, which was 81-83 mph this outing. We've seen him in the mid to upper 80's at times with the same type of movement. Brown's curveball was 69 mph and it can be sharp and deep at times, although he isn't very consistent with this pitch's release point. He also throws a 70 split change up that has good tumble and is consistent. Brown has a good arm and very good life on his pitches and when he's low in the strike zone can mow through a line up in a hurry.

Lance Brown is a 2007 RHP/1B/3B with a 6'1'', 180 lb. frame from Mount Ayr IA, who attends Mt. Ayr HS. He has a good, growing athletic build and some present strength. Brown throws from a free wheeling delivery with lots of arm swing and a full hip and back turn. His arm comes around quick from a low 3/4's release point and hitters don't see the ball until late. Brown's fastball was 82-84 mph and had very good, consistent sinking/running motion. He throws it at the middle of the plate right now but when he learns to understand the movement he's going to be able to really pitch to corners effectively. Brown's breaking ball is a 70-72 mph slider that he does a good job of getting over top of and creating 2-plane sweeping break. Brown throws strikes at will with his slider. He throws two types of change up, a standard straight change and a split finger, both of them with good arm speed and action. Brown's best present tool is probably his command. He pounds the strike zone with all his pitches and works quickly. Hitters will have to swing the bat early in the count when Brown's pitching. Brown projects well and already does plenty of things at a high level that are hard to teach. He's a very good follow and should be follow closely.
