Kevin Booth is a 6'1"-175 lb., primary catcher from Chesapeake, Virginia, who also has a future on the mound. Booth has a frame that can handle more muscle mass, and could end up as a very strong, physical player. Behind the plate he showed pop ranges from 2.08-2.17 with very good 79 mph velocity. Kevin runs well for a catcher with 7.37 sixty speed, and 4.55 home to first time. He has very good hands, and has been catching high velocity pitchers for the last two years. He shows good footwork with a very wide base at set up. At the plate, Kevin is a right handed hitter with a rock back load and knee lift trigger, with a no stride approach with fair bat speed. He has good balance in his swing with better pop on the inside half. With above average arm strength, Kevin just recently began to work out on the mound. With very little mound time, Kevin has a comfort zone of 84-86 mph and topped out at 88. He has very good command, and uses a simple delivery. He will need time and repetitions on the mound to develop his curveball and change up, but the potential is there. Kevin is a sleeper two way player, who will be a very valuable addition to a good college program. He is a good student.

Kevin is a square shouldered, strong bodied 6-0/180 lb. catcher from Chesapeake, Virginia who shows great defensive skills. He has quick feet, good body control and nice actions with nice soft hands. He shows the ability to handle top level pitchers and has very good blocking skills. His arm is strong with 2.08 - 2.10 pop times to second base at 76mph that will get much better yet. At the plate he hits from the right side with a high handed style and wide base. He has nice loft in his swing plane with a compact, quick stroke to contact and maintains balance well. He attacks the ball and shows strong hands with big time power potential. He is a top tier hitting prospect and an excellent catcher, one to watch closely. Kevin is a good student.

We were impressed with Booth’s soft hands and quick actions behind the plate. He handled good pitchers well despite his young age and should evolve into a very good pro type receiver. Booth has enough raw arm strength to worry runners but tends to throw uphill, leading to pop times in the 2.1 area. Not surprisingly, Booth has the same problem at the plate, dropping his back shoulder and swinging up hill. When he learns how to play downhill, Booth’s going to make quick improvement in some key areas of his game. He has a chance to be very very good and he's only an "05". Kevin is a good student..
