Kelly Funk is a 2007 RHP/1B with a 6'7'', 215 lb. frame from Panama City Bch FL, who attends JR Arnold HS. He has a very tall frame and still has plenty of room to add strength. Funk has a long, extended arm action with a high 3/4's to overhand release point. He has a high leg kick in his delivery and was a bit labored on his release.. Funk's fastball at the Showcase was 79-82 mph with some running action; we've seen him throw much better in the past. His 69 mph curveball had a slurve type of break. Funk's borther Shane was a similarly sized RHP who was a 4th round pick in the 2005 draft. Funk is also a very good student.

Kelly Funk is a 2007 RHP from JR Arnold High School in Panama City Beach, FL, with a 6'6'', 215 lb. frame. He has a strong, durable, and projectable body on the mound. Funk pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot with a long arm action, and throws against a stiff front leg. There is running action on his fastball that topped out at 84 mph, and he will break several wood bats in his time. Funk projects to throw harder in the future, and may be a potential 90 mph guy down the road. He also mixes in a slow curveball at 63 mph, with an 11 to 5 break. Funk gets depth on the pitch and it is very effective. As most young players of this size, it is hard for Funk to keep the same delivery on every pitch. That should all work itself out, and we see Funk being a very good pitcher in the future. He is a must follow, and is a very good student as well.
