RHP/OF Justin Funk: Funk is a senior outfielder/pitcher from Iowa who recently signed with Franciscan University. This young man has the potential to be a very good baseball player at the college level because his tools definitely play, but he’s always just flashed us the tools during the Spring League and at the Showcase. Funk has a nice medium build that can add some strength in the future. He ran 7.02 for us in the 60, but a few adjustments in his running style could make him a solid big league average runner. Funk’s arm from the outfield is very good, he rang up 88 mph on the radar gun at the work out and his throws have good carry and accuracy. While his arm is loose and free on the mound, Funk doesn’t generate the same kind of arm speed from a kind of drop and drive delivery, topping out at 82 mph. A taller, more leveraged delivery might give him better velocity as a pitcher. At the plate, Funk will flash some bat speed and can drive the ball hard to left field when he gets his hands extended to the ball. He’ll need to make more consistent contact to take advantage of his hitting potential, though. It will be interesting to follow his college career because this might be a player who you look at in a few years and say "Wow, he’s pretty good!"

Justin Funk: Funk is a senior right handed pitcher/outfielder from Iowa with a muscular build that’s seen some work in the weight room. On the mound, Funk threw up to 84 mph with his fastball and did a good job of keeping the ball low in the strike zone and getting the hitters to swing the bats. His curveball was 71-74 mph and had some good spin at times. Funk can swing the bat , too. He has a very patient approach at the plate, with quiet, quick hands that he keeps back well. Funk is strong enough to hit the ball hard and with some power, but his patience and batting eye really stood out. He is a good candidate to go to a Juco with a good baseball program and continue his development.
