2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Justin Dechert is a 2006 RHP/OF from Boynton Beach, Florida, with a 5'10", 150 lb. frame. On the mound he has a loose and live arm from a 3/4 arm slot with good extension and a solid finish. His fastball topped out at 84 mph with good command. Dechert's slider might have been the best breaking ball at the event. His slider was very sharp at 73 mph and is already a strikeout pitch. He used that pitch, and his solid fastball, to strikeout 4 hitters during his 2 innings of work, while not allowing a hit or run. There is effort in his delivery, but his arm works well and he gets good results. Dechert is also a right handed hitting outfielder with a knee lift trigger and quick bat. He has a balanced swing, and makes consistently hard contact. Dechert uses an open stance with a high hand set, and has a line drive swing path with some natural loft in it. He is a solid two way prospect that needs to be followed closely. Dechert is also a good student.
