2005 Atlantic Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Mapp is a 6-2, 170 lb senior left handed pitcher from Virginia with a young looking body and face. He throws from a straight up delivery with a very short wrapped arm action in back. His delivery resembles Barry Zito's until he releases the ball. Mapp's fastball was 66-68 mph and he pitched down in the strike zone with some sink. He also threw a 55-58 mph curveball but didn't show a change up. We've seen soft tossing lefties be successful with this stuff but they have to spot the ball exactly where they want to and Mapp didn't show the ability to do that at this showcase.
