Josh Smith is a 6'2", 185 lb. right handed pitcher from Margate, Florida, with good present strength and some good projection. He has a sound on-line delivery with a quick, fluid arm action that promises to add some velocity in the future. Smith threw 82-84 mph in Fort Myers, and we’ve heard of him throwing 86-88 mph on other occasions and believe those reports. Smith’s curveball was 67-68 mph and had tight spin with a good sharp break at times. Smith dropped down to sidearm a couple of times against right handed hitters and impressively didn’t appear to loose any of his raw stuff, even on his curveball, which retained some 2-plane break. It’s a wrinkle that he should keep in his arsenal in the future. Smith looks like a young pitcher who is going to keep improving and become a very solid DI hurler. Josh is a good student as well.

Josh Smith is a 6'0" right handed pitcher from Margate, FL, with a good pitcher’s body and some physical projection to him. He threw four shutout innings at the showcase, striking out five. Smith threw his fastball in the 80-81 mph range with some good boring action occasionally. His best pitch was a 66 mph curveball that had good depth to it and some downer bite. We actually thought that Smith was an even better prospect as a third baseman. He has good, smooth infield actions, and a strong infield arm. He really swung the bat well both in batting practice and in games. Smith has a good, balanced swing that is geared for power and he has the bat speed and hand strength to do it. He hit one ball over the left fielder’s head in games and showed consistent power potential in batting practice. We’re betting that Smith hits plenty of bombs with metal against high school pitching. Josh is a good student.
