2004 Spring Top Prospect Showcase
OF Josh Smith: Smith is a senior outfielder from Iowa with a good baseball body and some tools that should allow him to play at the next level. Smith has a lot of hand and body movement to trigger his swing but generates good bat speed and plane and hit a number of strong line drives at the Showcase. All his hand movement doesn’t help him time pitchers once they start throwing harder, though. Smith’s best present tool is his throwing arm, which registered 87 mph from the outfield. Smith can add some strength to his 6-1, 180 lb. frame and that’s just going to help him drive the ball better at the plate.
