John Christian is a 6-1, 160 lb junior right handed pitcher from Canada. NOTE: Christian's family is moving to Louisville, Kentucky this fall because of his father's job. College coaches and pro scouts who are responsible for Kentucky need to put this young man on their follow lists. Chistian is a live bodied athlete who is a sub 7.0 60 runner and projects very well physically. He has a live and loose arm and throws from a high 3/4's release point. Christian's fastball was 84-86 mph at the Midwest Showcase with some cutting aciton on occasion. Both of Christian's breaking balls show the potential to be plus pitches in the future. His 78-79 mph slider was nasty at times, with a big, hard break that froze hitters. Christian's 71-73 mph curveball has the same type of quality tight spin and has a sharp downer bite. Both pitches can make good hitters swing and miss. Christian also threw a couple of upper 70's change ups. Very good follow!

John Christian is a very athletic and projectable 2006 right handed pitcher from Canada. He has a slender, projectable frame with some quick twitch muscles that allowed him to run a 6.93-60. On the mound, Christian has a simple delivery with a loose, quick arm stroke. His fastball was 81-83 mph with some running and sinking action. Christian’s out pitch, though, was a 71-75 mph curveball that had sharp, hard biting action and was nasty at times. Christian struggled a bit controlling his curveball with its power and depth, but it could become a big time strikeout pitch for him when he reigns it in a bit. Christian also turned over a couple of 75 mph two-seam fastballs that acted as a bit of a change up for him. Christian is young and fairly raw, but he’s one of the better young Canadian pitchers we’ve seen recently in terms of projection and the quality of his present stuff. If he ends up throwing 87-90 with the curveball he has, there will be plenty of pro scouts paying attention.
