Jerry Sills -- Sills is a 5-9 junior middle infielder from Florida with a small frame but some mature strength to his actions. He hits from an open stance with a big knee lift trigger and really does a good job of generating torque with his body. Sills bat speed is impressive for his size and the ball jumps fast on contact. He’s even got some extension to his swing and shows power potential to the gaps. Sills hit the ball very well in game action as well as in batting practice and his hitting skills transfer well to the college level. He looks like he should be a pretty good runner but has a shuffling gait that slows him down considerably. He could really improve his speed with better running technique. That would help him with his infield actions as well. Sills also threw a couple of innings for us and showed us better arm strength than he did in infield. His arm was loose and quick and he maintained a steady 83-84 mph fastball with solid pitching mechanics, along with a 70-71 mph curveball. Jerry is an interesting player to watch.
