Aaron Gates is a 2008 OF/P with a 6'0'', 185 lb. frame from Villa Park, CA who attends Orange Lutheran HS. He has an average athletic frame but very good present strength. Gates tool is his left handed bat. He hits from a wide base with a quiet load and has a loose, easy swing with very good bat speed. Gates gets the bat going easily and has excellent timing getting the barrell into the zone. He handled a couple of high velocity pitchers with no problem and stayed closed well against a top left hander's breaking ball. Gates has a line drive swing plane right now but his bat speed and feel for hitting is such that he'll be able to develop plenty of power in the future. He's a confident hitter with all the physical tools to stand out with the bat. Gates profiles as a corner outfielder, with 7.21 running speed and some arm strength.
