Jay Moreland is a 2005 catcher from Old Hickory, TN, with good present overall strength and the tools to play well at the college level. Moreland’s arm strength is very good and despite an unusual two part release he was below 2.00 on every one of his workout throws. Offensively, Moreland has some good strength in his swing and a line drive approach. He tends to get a bit happy with his feet and dive into balls a bit, which hurts his power potential, but his strong hands enable him to make solid contact. Moreland looked like a heads up type of player who hustled on the bases and showed strong instincts as well. He should have a good college career. Jay is a very good student as well as being a real good prospect.
