Picard is a 2005 LHP/1B from Winooski, VT with a big 6'1"/225 pound body. He showed a smooth, quiet delivery with good balance and no arm tension. His fastball topped out at 76 mph with some slight run. His big slow curveball was 52 mph and had an 11-5 break. He also throws a change-up at 69 mph. He hits from an upright stance and is slightly rotational when he swings. Showed good line drive gap to gap power during batting practice. He has a solid glove at 1B with good range. He has a solid LH bat for the next level.

J. Matthew Picard is a physically strong LHP from Vermont who profiles to first base. Picard might have the type of bat that can carry him well to the next level, though. His swing is very short and quick for his size and he looked like a line drive machine in batting practice and game action. Picard has very strong hands and controls the bat head with balance and confidence. He’s just a good overall hitter who could surprise some people in the Northeast. Picard also pitched three innings, allowing only 1 run while throwing in the mid-70’s. He has nice hands and the bat plays large.
