John Schulmeister is a 2008 LHP/OF with a 6'0'', 170 lb. frame from Allen, TX who attends Allen. John hits from a square upright stance, and has a good quiet approach. He has a line drive swing and stays short to the ball. He does a good job of taking the outside pitch the other way. His swing does get long versus balls on the inner half of the plate. In the outfield he showed good mechanics, and was consistently on the bag with his throws. He has good mechanics, but could be more aggressive to the ball. He does a good job setting up his throws and getting square to his target, but he doesn't always come through the ball. He had a top velocity of 79 mph from the outfield. On the mound he is a 3-pitch guy, with good tempo and sound mechanics. He keeps the ball down in the zone and has solid arm side run. He does a good job working the outer half of the plate to right handed hitters. He has slight arm side run on a fastball that topped at 81 mph. John is an excellent student.
