Brian Baumgarten is a 2008 OF with a 6'0'', 175 lb. frame from Bellaire, TX who attends Bellaire HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event and showed as much upside potential as any player there. Baumgarten has a lean athletic body that is well-proportioned. As he gets stronger some explosiveness will start to emerge in his game, particularly with the bat. Baumgarten did not have the best results with the bat but he showed us the tools that suggest a bright future. He sets up well at the plate and swings with bat speed. There is some leverage in his swing and he has good bat speed. He may need to cut down his swing a bit to make more consistent contact. Baumgarten did show the ability to get to velocity. Defensively he has a chance to be a centerfielder but likely settles in at a corner. His arm is strong and he gets carry on his throws. All around his tools profile well for Baumgarten to someday be a starter at a major D1 program.

Brian Baumgarten is a 2008 OF with a 6'0'', 175 lb. frame from Bellaire, TX who attends Bellaire. Brian has good speed, and it showed in his 7.06 sixty time. He is fast an aggressive on the bases and puts pressure on the defense by getting out of the box hard every time and looking to take the extra base. He takes control in the outfield and has a strong accurate arm. His top velocity from the outfield was 81mph. His arm is a little short on the backside, but he has a good bottom half and uses his legs very well. He is aggressive to and through the ball. He has a medium athletic frame with some present strength and room to add more. He hits from a slightly open stance and has a quiet and controlled swing. The ball jumps of his bat and he will drive it from gap to gap. He loads well and has some pop with quick hands. His hips are missing from his swing at times, but when he uses them the ball really jumps. Brian is also a good student.
