Nicholas Benges is a 2009 2B/P with a 5'8'', 170 lb. frame from Linthicum, MD who attends North County HS. He has a short, compact build with good strength, especially in his upper body. Benges doesn't look like a prototypical second baseman but he played the position well. He has a quick release with a low release point and flexible arm that enabled him to make a number of different plays in the games. He charged the ball well in games and made plays balanced and under control. Offensively, Benges hits with low hands and a wristy, quick swing. Benges has the strength to hit the ball hard and likes the ball on the inside halft so he can pull the ball. A little more of a timing trigger would benefit Benges at the plate. Benges also pitched an inning, throwing 78-80 with his fastball from a free wheeling delivery and H 3/4's release point. He is a good student.
