2007 Atlantic Coast Underclass Showcase
Seth Newton is a 2010 OF with a 6'0'', 170 lb. frame from Carrollton, GA who attends East Coweta HS. He has a solid build with very good strength for a 2010 prospect. Newton was one of the best hitting prospects at the showcase. He has a nice looking left handed swing with some present bat speed for a young hitter. He has a wrap to start his swing that creates length to the ball but he's strong and quick enough to work through it. Newton showed the ability to drive the ball hard to the opposite field but also pulled some hard in games. He's definitely a bat to keep an eye on. Newton also showed high prospect level arm strength in the outfield, throwing 87 mph in drills with a quick release and smooth, fundamentally sound actions at the ball. The one weakness in Newton's game is that he is somewhat of a stiff runner with 7.6 speed that can be improved on. Overall, he's a very nice looking young player with a bright future. Newton was named to the Showcase Top Prospect Team.
