Eli Spruill is a 2010 OF/RHP with a 6'1'', 160 lb. frame from Creswell, NC who attends Plymouth HS. He has a very young and thin build with minimal strength and looks taller than he is listed. Spruill was very impressive at the plate because of his bat head skills and his ability to square up on the ball. He has unconventional hitting mechanics, with a stiff lower half and a late front foot and the impression that he is reaching for everything, but he has some magic strength in his hands and consistently hit line drives both in batting practice and in the games. Getting better balance and timing at the plate can only help him, along with getting stronger, but Spruill looks like a good young hitter. Spruill ran pretty well for a youngster at 7.46 on the slow track and should also get faster as he gets stronger. He lacked throwing and fielding fundamentals in the outfield and will have to work hard to improve on defense. Spruill also pitched a bit and threw only fastballs, topping out at 75 mph with weak pitching mechanics and no projection. He is a good student.
