Robert Shepherd is a 2008 3B/OF/P with a 6'1'', 180 lb. frame from Groton, CT who attends Fitch HS. He has a good frame with some strength and thickness to his build. Shepherd's best tool is his arm strength and he showed better skills as a pitcher at this event. As a third baseman, Shepherd is a one spot fielder with piece by piece actions. Once he gathers himself he makes strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Quickness will be an issue at the next level. Shepherd is a right handed hitter with an upper body rotational swing. He has a long sweeping swing and shows the ability to move the barrell around and make line drive contact to all fields. Shepherd lacks hand strength and bat speed at this point. On the mound, Shepherd threw up to 81 mph on his fastball with a good downhill angle to the plate and nice cutting action on his fastball occasionally. He has some fall off at release and could improve with better balance and direction. He threw a soft low 60's curveball but seems well suited for adding a slider. His change up showed some feel. Shepherd is a good student.
