2007 National Showcase
Kelvin Duran is a FA OF with a 5'10'', 160 lb. frame from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He has a lean, wiry build that has speed/quickness written all over it. He resembles Felix Pie (Cubs) at the same age. It was no surprise at all when Duran ran a 6.33 and was 3.75 on a bunt early in the showcase; he has impact type of speed and more importantly has the instincts and ability to use his quickness. He was looking to put the ball on the ground at the plate and was ready to run on every pitch once he got on, which was frequently. Duran has a quick contact swing and showed some bat speed against some top pitchers that he didn't show in batting practice. He might surprise in the future with some gap pop as he gets stronger. Defensively, Duran is a fluid defensive player with centerfield tools and a strong arm that produced low online throws. He would likely be considered a top 2-3 round type of prospect if he was in the draft based on his tools and approach to the game.
