Evan Bates is a 2007 LHP/1B with a 6'3'', 200 lb. frame from Tuscaloosa AL, who attends Northridge HS. He has a large frame with some natural strength but could get much stronger. Bates has a complex, slow paced delivery, with a high leg kick out front and some back side collapse on his rear leg. He has a very long, extended arm action and shows the ball in back. All this comes through with a low 3/4's release point. Bates is one of these left handers who throws nothing straight. His fastball was only 74-77 mph but it was running and sinking consistently. His 68 mph curveball was a good pitch, with tight, hard rotation and a big break. Bates moved the ball around and kept hitters guessing. A change up would have been a nice addition and it would have probably had very good movement as well.

Evan Bates is a strong 6'3"/190, (2007) left handed pitcher from Tuscaloosa, AL. He throws from a low 3/4 arm slot with quick arm speed and semi stiff arm action. Bates threw a 75-79 mph fastball, 69 mph slider with good depth and a nice 62 mph change up with some sink. His command was inconsistent. Bates front side tends to fly open early, which creates his slinging arm action. He gets good drive to the plate with his lower half. There is plenty that Bates can improve on and he is strong and has good quality secondary pitches and is left handed.
