2004 Northwest Top Prospect Showcase
Ernie Alvarez is a 2005 second baseman from Seattle, Washington with a lean build at 5'7", 140 lbs., and lots of room for added muscle. He has square shoulders and we could see him adding strength that can change his game to a different level. Alvarez has quick infield actions, with very good body control, and a wristy release which enables him to also turn quick double plays at 2B. Alvarez runs decent for his size, and when strength comes, it should only get better. He is an aggressive player that isn't intimidated by others, and he attacks the game and shows you that he has fun playing the game. He looks to be an early line up hitter that can make things happen when he gets on base.
