2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Eric Barclay is a 2006 OF/2B from Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, TN, with a 5'10'', 160 lb. frame. He is a lean and athletic player with good speed. Barclay ran a 6.77 sixty on a slow track and showed a quick first step on the bases and in the outfield. Defensively he uses his speed and quickness along with his instincts to cover a great deal of ground. His arm is solid from a lower arm slot and he gets good online carry on his throws. At the plate the right handed hitter can flat out hit. Barclay has a quick bat with and explosive bat path. He attacks the ball while maintaining balance in his swing and produces leverage at contact. Barclay turns on the ball well and shows surprising power, including a HR during batting practice. He is a top level hitter with all-around skills who will do well at the next level, and is a good student as well.
