2007 Hawaii Showcase Tournament
Brett Rogers is a 2007 OF/1B with a 6'3'', 180 lb. frame from Costa Mesa CA, who attends Newport Harbor HS. He has a lanky, lean, athletic frame, quite a good body for a young player. Rogers has a chance to develop into a well-rounded prospect, perhaps even at the pro level in time. He runs well, he shows the ability to hit, has a decent arm, and a body that should not limit him from any future development. Rogers sprays the ball around well and has a flat swing plane, hitting many line drives and ground balls, keeping the ball out of the air. He even executed a few quality "team at-bats" which is a rarity in a showcase environment. In the field he approaches the ball well and has some whippy arm speed that suggests his arm is still going to get stronger as he does. Rogers is pretty athletic and has some tools. If he goes the junior college rounte, he should emerge as a D1 prospect in a couple of years. For programs that can use a roster spot on a develomental player, he would be a good one to have now.
