E.J. Smith is a 2006 SS/OF from Bethpage HS in New York, with a 6'0", 180 lb. frame. He has wide shoulders and good present strength. Smith ran the 60 in 6.89. He showed solid actions defensively, with good footwork and balance and a strong throwing arm. It looks like Smith could play any of the three infield positions depending on a team's needs. Smith is a switch hitter with quality bat speed and a similar approach from both sides of the plate. He hits from a wide stance with no stride or weight shift. Smith has very strong, very quick hands and gets the bat head into the zone in a hurry. He smoked a couple of line drives that really came off the bat hard and showed the ability to hit to all fields. Smith looks a bit more polished and smooth from the left side but he's legit both ways. Smith is also a very good student who has signed to attend Virginia Tech.

E.J. Smith is a 2006 shortstop/right handed pitcher from Bethpage, New York, with a very athletic 6'0",180 lb. frame. In the field he shows 80 mph velocity on throws with solid defensive actions. E.J. tends to field the ball deep and close to his body, which leaves his hands a bit hard. He's a 7.14 runner with quick active feet. E.J.'s best tools show when he has a bat in his hand, especially from the left side. He has above average bat speed with very good hand quickness, and the ability to drive the ball hard with wood. E.J. pulls off the ball more right handed than left handed, and has a little more effort in his swing, but the raw bat speed is consistent. He definitely projects some power down the road as he builds some loft into his swing. On the mound E.J. showed very good arm speed. He uses a simple delivery with good balance to produce an 84 mph fastball, 64 mph curveball, and 66 mph change up. EJ has a hard, late unloading action on release that does add to deception. He throws from a mid 3/4 arm slot with online stride with normal effort, and maintains his arm speed on off speed pitches. E.J. is a good pitching prospect, but even a better hitting prospect. Very Good Follow! He's a good student too.

E.J. is an "06" SS from NY. At 6'0/180 he has a pro type body with wide shoulders and good strength. He has a very good strong arm and shows good body control and nice actions. He runs well and shows excellent baseball instincts. While his arm is already a MLB tool it's his switch hitting bat that creates the most interest. He hits with power both ways with a nice well balanced swing. He can turn on the good fastballs. He might look a bit smoother from the left side, but he can hit from both. He's strong, quick, with a very good arm and a very good bat. E.J. is also a good student. It will be interesting to see how good he might get.

E.J. Smith -- Smith is a strong and athletic sophomore infielder from New York. He has broad shoulders and the chance to get really strong as he matures. Smith is a switch hitter with a much nicer swing from the left side of the plate. He has a tendency to loop his hands under the ball from both sides and pull off, but generates better bat speed with better balance as a left handed hitter. Smith is an average big league runner right now, which opens up any number of defensive positions for him depending on how he develops his body and the rest of his game. He uses his speed aggressively on the bases, too. Smith also threw 3 innings and showed good prospect potential as a pitcher. He has a compact, quick arm action and gets good use of his lower body in his delivery. Smith’s fastball was 79-81 mph with some tailing action. His curveball was a big bender at 64-66 mph and his change up had really nice movement on it at 70-74 mph. We’d keep an eye on him on the mound as well but in general Smith is just a very talented athlete who is good at everything. He's also a good student.

Smith is a sophomore that showed well as a shortstop and on the mound. He runs well, throws well and presently showed good ability in the infield. He might end up being a shortstop and with his 5 foot 11 and 170 pound frame he looked like he has room to grow and fill out his body. If he does that he could end up with the speed and arm to play on the left side of the infield at a high level. He switch hits with a nice swing both ways. He showed some power from both sides, but appeared to be a bit more consistent on the right side. On the hill he was very good with an 80 mph fastball, 67 mph curve and a 61 mph change-up. He threw those 3 pitches with command and an easy arm motion. He was selected to the Top Prospect game as a pitcher. He can hit and he can play the infield but he showed a little bit more natural ability on the mound and made pitching look easy. E.J. Is a good student.

E.J. is a good switch hitter with a swing that will eventually generate serious wood bat power. He has a good presence at the plate and displays early maturity. He has a nice approach and shows quickness through the zone. Very good hitter at current level. He also has a very good arm. He pitches, but we think he will end up playing in the infield when it's all said and done. Only an "06" and a good one!
