Dustin Spruill is a 2006 C with a 5'11'', 200 lb. frame from Northport, AL. Dustin showed a strong arm and solid catch and throw skills behind the plate. His bat showed good juice in both BP and the games as he smoked a 2B over the CF's head. Solid defensive catcher with a good LH bat. He played at Chipola JC in the Spring

Dustin Spruill is a 2006 catcher from Paul Bryant HS in Northport, AL, with a 5'11", 195 lb. frame. We've seen Spruill play since he was a freshman and this was the best he has ever played for us; it was great to see. Spruill has a solid build throughout with very good present strength. He showed big time arm strength in Atlanta, throwing 80 mph in drills with a best pop time of 1.89. His release has got smoother and quicker and his throws were accurate. Spruill is a switch hitter with plus raw power from both sides of the plate. He has a little better bat control and quickness from the left side and more lift in his swing from the right side. Spruill absolutely crushed the ball during batting practice and made the Georgia Tech field seem small and took a strong approach into the games as well. He could be a middle of the order run producer while playing a premium position defensively at the next level. Spruill is also a very good student and has signed with Auburn.

Perfect Game/WWBA veteran Spruill had a solid showcase in Fort Myers. His 5-11, 195 lb frame is really looking strong and quick. Probably the best part of Spruill’s showing was on defense. His defensive skills keep getting better and better as he matures. Spruill received the ball very well during games and showed quickness and consistency on his throws, staying right around 1.90 all through drills and making a couple of game throws just above 2.0, all with good accuracy. At the plate, Spruill showed his power at the plate. He seems to have developed more uppercut in his swing recently but he still has very good bat speed and tons of raw power. Spruill is a patient hitter in game situations who has the ability to wait and wait, then aggressively attack the pitch he wants. Spruill has similar bat speed from each side but his swing plane and hand action from the left side is a bit better at this point.

Dustin Spruill -- Spruill is a switch-hitting sophomore catcher from Alabama that we’ve seen numerous times over the past year. Spruill’s best tool is his bat. He knows how to hit and enjoys hitting and has the strength and bat speed to hit top level pitching. Spruill has more raw power from the right side and really gets his hips turned and can loft the ball. He’s more balanced on the left side and will use the entire field a little more. Spruill’s arm strength and footwork have improved to the point where he’s consistently in the low 1.90’s on his workout pop times and we have to remember that he’s only a sophomore and will improve. He's a good receiver with one of the top bats in his class. It will be fun to watch him over the next couple years..

Spruill will only be a sophomore this season but based on what we’ve seen this summer, he already has more experience and polish than many catchers who are far older. Spruill is a switch-hitter who shows plenty of promise with the bat from the left side especially. He has enough power already to drive the ball off the wall to the opposite field with wood and when he stays down and through the ball, he’s a dangerous hitter who will just get better. Defensively, Spruill has close to MLB average arm strength already and shows a strong understanding of the defensive fundamentals of the position. He easily ranks as one of the very top 2006 catchers in the country. Stay tuned!

Excellent "06" catching prospect. Outstanding arm for a guy his size. Swings the bat very well even with wood. Hard telling how he will grow, but this kid has a chance to be a elite player and he has 4 years to do it.

Young 06 catcher who should be real interesting to watch grow. Switch hitter with a pretty swing. Quick hands and showed surprising power for his size. Throws well for an 06.
