Roth is a 6-1, 195 lb senior left handed pitcher from Texas. He throws from an across the body delivery with some recoil from a mid 3/4's release point. Roth turns his back all the way around in his delivery and with his cross body finish goes through a lot of weight shift and it looked like he was having balance issues. Roth's fastball was 78-81 mph with some occasional cutting action. He varied his speed on his curveball and got good spin, with a bigger bite in the low 60's and a sharper sluve type break up to 67 mph. We've heard of Roth throwing up to the upper 80's before, so he might have been trying to hard or he might have been tired after a long summer, and we suspect he wasn't able to show his true abilities. Roth also swung the bat well at the showcase, getting three hits in the two showcase games. He is a very good student who should be followed closely as a strong lefty with some arm strength.

Doug Roth is a 2006 left handed pitcher/first baseman from Lakeway, TX, with a tall frame and a strong lower half at 6-2, 195 lbs. He pitches from a low ¾ arm slot with a long arm action. His delivery is high effort and he does have a tendency to jerk his head and upper body to third base as he starts towards the plate. His fastball is at 78 mph with good arm side life and occasional sink. He really challenged hitters with his fastball and got ahead in the count. He also threw a slurve at 67 mph with decent late sweep action too it. It comes out of his hand with 2-8 spin and is a decent pitch at times. His change was at 68 mph. Defensively, he showed good arm strength throwing across the diamond at 81 mph. He has the arm strength to be a good college level pitcher and he is a solid prospect to follow. Doug is a very good student.
