2015 Top Prospects

Kevin Strohschein  OF - 2015 - McDonough, GA
Tennessee Tech

Although a primary outfield prospect with high end tools -6.88 60-yard and 91 mph from the outfield- Strohschein showed well on the mound this weekend, topping out at 89 mph, showing the ability to be a two-way player at the next level. His right-handed swing is quick with loose hands and pop to his pull side.

Austin Pharr  3B - 2015 - Waleska, GA
Kennesaw State

Pharr turned in strong in game performances each game he played in, showing fluid actions on the left side of the infield with a quick, accurate arm and nice strength across. A left-handed hitter, Pharr creates nice leverage in his swing with hard contact off the barrel.

Isaac Phillips  OF - 2015 - Powder Springs, GA
Faulkner University/Chattahoochee Valley CC

Phillips is full of quick twitch muscle and plays the game hard with tools that are just as loud. The uncommitted Phillips threw 90 mph from the outfield, ran a 6.74-60, and showed an aggressive swing from the right side with projectable strength.

Jabari Richards  OF - 2015 - Fayetteville, GA
Furman

After opening eyes in the workout when he ran a 6.64 60-yard and threw 87 mph from the outfield, Richards showed equally impressive tools in game, throwing out a runner at second base and showing a quick left-handed stroke with two in game extra base hits.

David Posas  MIF - 2015 - Valdosta, GA
Mercer

After showing solid tools in the workout portion of the event, Posas took one of the best rounds of batting practice from both sides of the plate. He showed a a strong feel for the barrel from the left side with interesting bat speed both in batting practice and in game at-bats.

Cole Buffington  C - 2015 - Marietta, GA
The Citadel

After popping the event's best time of 1.78 seconds and throwing 77 mph down to second base, Buffington showed that those tools and his catch and throw skills play in game, making numerous strong, accurate throws to catch runners attempting to swipe second base. His bat was equally as impressive, showing solid carry off the barrel to all parts of the field.

Jake Lovvorn  LHP - 2015 - Tucker, GA
Young Harris College/Georgia Highlands

A strong left-handed pitcher, Lovvorn worked both side of the plate with his fastball that topped at 86 mph and showed a nice feel for both his slider and changeup within the strike zone.

Randal Heller  OF - 2015 - Marietta, GA
South Georgia College

Heller impressed throughout the weekend with all of his tools. With a quick twitch 5-11 frame, Heller showed quick hands and solid bat speed from the right side. Along with the bat, Heller impressed in the workouts, throwing 87 mph from the outfield and showed above average speed with a 6.73 60-yard dash.

Steven Bower  LHP - 2015 - Lawrenceville, GA
University of North Georgia

A strong 6-foot-3 left-handed pitcher, Bower ran his fastball up to 86 mph, throwing with a long, loose arm action while working down in the zone to both sides of the plate. He also showed a late breaking 1-7 curveball in the low-70's.

Peyton Whitten  RHP - 2015 - Anniston, AL
Central Alabama CC

Whitten showed a quick arm from an over the top slot and did a nice job of getting on top of the ball to create downhill plane on his fastball which topped at 87 mph. He located well to both sides of the plate and projects for more velocity as the ball comes out of his hand cleanly.

Baylor Sundahl  RHP - 2015 - Maryville, TN
Sacred Heart

Working exclusively from the stretch, Sundahl showed a quick, side arm delivery which helped to generate a fastball up to 86 mph with nice running life to it. He projects for more velocity in the future and showed a feel for a slider at 72 mph.

Ryan Aspinwall  RHP - 2015 - Jacksonville, FL
C of Central Florida

Aspinwall showed a short, quick arm action on the mound and worked downhill with his fastball and topped out at 85 mph with arm side run. He showed a feel for his 11-5 curveball at 66 mph, repeating his arm action well between the two pitches.

Thomas Benson  RHP - 2015 - Madison, MS

Benson showed a fast, loose arm during his time on the mound, topping out at 85 mph with arm side run low in the zone. Along with his fastball, Benson showed a tight curveball and a nice changeup at 75 mph.

Chris Cunningham  C - 2015 - Houston, TX

Cunningham had a strong showing over the weekend, posting an event best 82 mph down to second base and popped an impressive 1.89. Along with running a 6.96 60-yard, Cunningham showed solid bat speed from right handed swing with interesting strength at contact.

James (Adam) Durrett  RHP - 2015 - Alabaster, AL
Marion Military Institute

Even though he is listed as a primary third baseman, Durrett filled up the strike zone on the mound, topping out at 85 mph with his fastball and showed a tight 11-5 curveball with late life. He also showed a quick bat through the zone with quick hands on inside pitches.

Dawson Ewers  OF - 2015 - Canton, GA

Ewers turned in the top 60 yard time of the event with a 6.54 time and also showed well with his left-handed swing. He showed quick hands with a short path to the ball with nice leverage in his swing.

Justin Gesek  C - 2015 - Jacksonville, FL
Chipola College

With his strong 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame, Gesesk showed an aggressive swing with quick hands and big time bat speed, two attributes that helped him to drive the ball with authority.

Denzell Gowdy  3B - 2015 - Sylvester, GA
Darton College

Gowdy moves well on his feet in the infield and shows athleticism throughout his actions. His loudest tool this weekend though was his bat, both in batting practice and in game. He showed loose, fast hands and a strong feel for the barrel, going with the pitch and showed the ability to keep his weight back on off speed offerings.

Cameron Hearn  OF - 2015 - Atlanta, GA
Alabama State/Georgia Highlands

Hearn showed nice all round tools and showed the second best infield velocity in workouts with his top throw clocking in at 85 mph. Along with his arm, Hearn ran a 6.97 and showed a loose, quick swing from the right side.

Blake Helton  SS - 2015 - Newnan, GA
West GA Tech

A middle infielder, Helton showed quick, athletic actions with nice lateral range and impressed with his arm strength across, showing the strongest arm in the infield workout, topping at 87 mph with his best throw.

Sean Pat McDermott  1B - 2015 - Cartersville, GA
Mercer/Cleveland State CC

McDermott showed fluid actions at first base with sound footwork off the bag and nice arm strength across the diamond. He used his 6-foot-4 frame and strength to impress with the bat and hit an opposite field home run in batting practice.

Cole Murphy  1B - 2015 - Cincinnati, OH
University of Cincinnati

A projectable 6-foot-6 left-handed hitter, Murphy showed a fluid swing from the left side with natural lift. He also threw an inning on the mound topping out at 85 mph with his fastball.

Hank Nichols  LHP - 2015 - Greenville, SC
South Carolina

Committed to The Citadel, Nichols created nice angle with downhill plane from the left side and topped out at 85 mph over the course of his outing. He showed a feel for both a curveball and a changeup with cutting action at 76 mph.

Jeremiah Woods  RHP - 2015 - Fayetteville, GA
Georgia Highlands

Woods showed a quick arm on the mound and put his arm strength on display, bumping 88 mph with his fastball while working in the 80-85 mph range. He also showed a strong feel for both his slider at 77 mph and changeup at 70 mph.
