2017 Top Prospects

Pepper Jones  RHP - 2017 - McKinney, TX
Texas San Antonio/Navarro College

Jones showed off his athleticism throughout the weekend by running a 6.87 before jumping on the mound. An uncommitted 6-foot, 187-pound righthander, Jones showed the top velocity of the weekend by bumping 88 mph with his fastball which he maintained well and was constantly able to miss bats with the heater.

Logan Allen  SS - 2017 - Magnolia, TX
Bridgeport

Allen has an overall tool set that would very much play at the next level as he showed he can do it all on the diamond. A 6.83 runner, Allen showed off big arm strength up to 90 mph in the outfield, 84 across the diamond, and touched 86 mph off the mound. He also showed off a compact swing with solid bat speed and a sound overall approach.

Nick Barnes  RHP - 2017 - Katy, TX

Barnes is an interesting prospect who stands at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds with physical strength while still sporting room to fill. He shows nice command of a full three pitch mix which included a fastball that topped out at 86 mph with downhill plane, showed a 12-6 shaped curveball, and threw a changeup with nice confidence at 76 mph featuring dive down in the zone.

Jared Hart  LHP - 2017 - Cedar Park, TX
Temple College

Hart is an interesting uncommitted lefthanded pitcher who ran his fastball up to 86 mph and projects for more as he continues to fill out his lean 6-foot frame. His arm action is clean through the backside and he showed a nice feel for a 1-7 shaped breaking ball at 69 mph with nice depth.

Benjamin McClain Iv  OF - 2017 - Lees Summit, MO
Arkansas

McClain is full of athleticism in his 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame as he possesses plenty of quick-twitch muscle as demonstrated by his 6.77 60-yard dash. He threw 85 mph from the outfield but most impressed in the lefthanded batter's box where he showed a consistent feel for the barrel with sound bat speed and line drive contact coming off with some pop too.

Watson Timmons  OF - 2017 - Argyle, TX
Uncommitted

Timmons is listed at 6-foot, 195-pounds but he's full of fast-twitch muscle as he showed by running a 6.76 60-yard dash. He's a lefthanded hitter who begins with an open stance and shows plenty of looseness to his swing as well as strength as he displayed both during BP and live, hitting a home run in the game portion of the event.

Eric Taylor  1B - 2017 - Midwest City, OK
University of Rio Grande/Northern Oklahoma College-ENID

Taylor is an intimidating presence at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds and he's able to you that physicality well with his swing, staying short and quick to the ball with plenty of leverage and strength off of the barrel. He continues to show quick hands in live action and also ran his fastball up to 83 mph on the mound.

Jerry Davis  OF - 2017 - Arlington, TX
New Mexico/Vernon College

Davis, who's listed as uncommitted per his Perfect Game profile, has a bevy of tools that would play well at the next level. He's listed at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, ran a 6.82 60-yard, threw 89 mph from the outfield, and shows quick hands in his righthanded swing with hard carry off the barrel both in BP and live action.

Austin Buley  RHP - 2017 - McKinney, TX
College of Charleston

Buley showed off nice two-way potential throughout the weekend. A primary righthanded pitcher, Buley worked his fastball up to 84 mph while generating nice fading life to his changeup. He swung that bat well from the right side as well with loose hands and nice carry off the barrel to the middle of the field.

Hector Carrillo  C - 2017 - Tulsa, OK
Fort Scott CC

Carrillo showed one of the quicker swings throughout the event as his hands come through the zone fast and he's able to generate plenty of whip with the barrel. The ball comes off the barrel well to all parts of the field with a simple and repeatable swing. He also threw 76 mph from behind the plate with carry and accuracy out of the hand.

Michael Cooper  OF - 2017 - Missouri City, TX
McLennan CC

Cooper has a long and loose 6-foot-5, 180-pound frame that projects nicely moving forward with additional strength. He shows a simple swing with solid launch at the point of contact, showing solid carry with simple contact. He also ran a 6.92 and threw 84 mph from the outfield.

Joseph Craig  OF - 2017 - Blanchard, OK
Seminole State College

Craig impressed all throughout the showcase as he showed off some of the better arm strength from both of his positions, throwing 87 mph from the outfield and 84 mph across the diamond. He also put his quick hands on display in the righthanded batter's box showing a feel for the barrel and ability to create carry at point of contact.

Garett Crews  OF - 2017 - Frisco, TX

Crews shows a direct swing path and incorporates his 6-foot, 190-pound frame well into his righthanded swing, showing solid carry off the barrel to the middle and pull side parts of the field, uncoiling well at the point of contact with plenty of torque to his swing. He also showed off nice arm strength from the outfield.

Ian Groves  C - 2017 - Austin, TX
Vernon College

Groves started his event by posting the top pop time of the showcase with a 1.87 while showing a quick transfer and accuracy on this throws down to second base with arm strength. He shows similar strength in his righthanded swing where there's plenty of intent as he stays short to the ball with line drive contact back up the middle.

Brock Hummel  SS - 2017 - Oklahoma City, OK
Uncommitted

Hummel produced the top 60-yard time of event, showing off obvious athleticism as he posted a 6.58 down the lane. He still projects and has room to fill throughout his frame and showed sound actions up the middle with soft hands and swung the bat well from the right side with line drive contact that produced jump off the barrel.

Isaac Segura  3B - 2017 - Austin, TX
Rhodes College

Though listed as a primary third baseman, Segura also impressed on the mound where he ran his fastball up to 85 mph with downhill plane while showing 12-6 shape to his breaking ball. He moves well defensively in the infield with clean actions, showing the same solid arm strength while showing easy bat speed from the right side with quick hips and a sound path.

Nick Sunday  OF - 2017 - Oologah, OK
Cowley County CC

Sunday projects nicely and shows a well rounded set of tools, all of which project as he continues to fill out his 6-foot-1, 170-pound frame. He already runs well as he posted a 6.81 and showed solid arm strength from the outfield with a top throw of 86 mph with nice carry. His righthanded swing shows a feel for the barrel with a full path and carry to the pull side.

Ryan Tackett  OF - 2017 - Spring, TX
Uncommitted

Tackett ran a 6.95 60-yard and showed quickness off the first base bag but the swing is his calling card. A switch-hitter with strength from either side of the plate, Tackett showed particularly well from the left side as his hands are plenty quick and he's able to create nice separation to his swing with loud jump off the barrel.

Nolan Tenpas  RHP - 2017 - Austin, TX
Texas Lutheran University

An uncommitted righthander, Tenpas stands at a strong 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame with which he's able to generate a fastball that topped out at 86 mph while working comfortably in the low-80s. His arm action is long and clean through the back and he shows heavy life to fastball while creating nice depth and 11-5 shape to his breaking ball.

Travis Walters  C - 2017 - Mansfield, TX
North Central Texas College

Walters posted the second quickest pop time from behind the plate with a 1.88 and showed the biggest arm strength with a top throw of 78 mph. He impressed just as much with his righthanded swing as he implements his physical strength well to generate nice jump off the barrel and carry to all parts of the field.

Jarret Whorff  RHP - 2017 - Winnsboro, TX
Louisiana Tech/Panola College

Whorff stands on the mound with an athletic 6-foot-2 frame and he's able to generate solid arm speed through the back which helped produce a fastball that topped out at 86 mph. He was able to generate depth to his curveball and showed a feel for his changeup at 74 mph with some sinking life down in the zone.


2018 Top Prospects

Benny Hernandez  1B - 2018 - Cedar Hill, TX
New Mexico Junior College

The lone underclassman of the event, Hernandez fit right in as he swung a loud bat from the right side both in batting practice and during live action. He has a big leg lift at the start of his swing and shows solid present bat speed with nice present jump off the barrel, driving the ball well to his pull side.
