ESPN “Between the Lines” this Sunday

Young pitchers and Tommy John Surgeries
This Sunday (August 22nd) at 9:30 am, ESPN will do a story about the increasing number of Tommy John surgeries performed on very young pitchers.

According to the writer several AFLAC All Americans will set the stage for some interesting discussion about this important baseball topic. Fox Sports aired the AFLAC All American Classic, but ESPN was on hand to film and talk to the players at the workouts before the game.

The story is appropriate in this setting because two of the 2003 AFLAC All Americans went through Tommy John surgery within the last year. Rockies first round pick Chris Nelson (GA) ended up signing a big contract and the Angels picked and eventually signed Nick Adenhart (MD) despite having Tommy John just a few weeks before the draft. Nelson was not hurt so much with the timing of his surgery, but Adenhart was a sure fire first rounder who lost at least a million or more dollars because of his injury.

Should be an interesting story and discussion this Sunday morning on ESPN’s “Between the Lines”. The topic is a very important one and parents should be sure to watch it.
