Pepperdine was extra confident entering the series finale against San Diego last weekend. The teams split the first two games of the important West Coast Conference series, but the Waves entered the series finale with a substantial advantage: Lefthanded pitcher and key hitter Aaron Brown was getting the start.
As the rising junior prospect has done so many times this season, he stepped up against the Toreros, piecing together arguably his best pitching performance of the season. Besides recording a hit and knocking in a run at the plate, Brown was terrific on the mound, striking out seven, walking one and allowing just two hits in a complete game shutout, 3-0 victory over USD.
Clutch performances such as that from Brown have become commonplace for a Waves club locked into the NCAA postseason and sitting pretty with a 34-14 overall record, 17-7 mark in the WCC, two full games ahead of second place Loyola Marymount.

“He’s just learned command, how to control the running game and is growing up all at the same time,” Pepperdine coach Steve Rodriguez said. “He’s the perfect stereotype for how you want to progress throughout your college career.”
