Several teams around the country helped their cases with strong weekends. For instance, TCU hit the road and swept Texas, climbing into the top 20 in the latest RPI despite being in the 100s just a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, Florida had yet another outstanding weekend, improving its national seed resume with a home series sweep over Georgia, while San Diego State earned a crucial road series win over UC Irvine.
There are those teams that hurt their resumes over the weekend. Nebraska was a clear-cut postseason team, and still is looking good, but suffered a setback at home with a series loss to lowly Northwestern, while UNLV was the victim of the weekend's biggest surprise, somehow getting swept on the road by pesky Air Force.
This time of year, many of the questions I get via twitter or in e-mails pertains to teams helping/hurting their cases, so in this now weekly feature, we'll take an in-depth look at those teams, where they stand now, what needs to happen, and how the rest of the regular season looks.
HELPED THEIR CASE
TCU: It wasn't too long ago the Horned Frogs had an RPI in the 100s. Now, their RPI is up to 18 nationally after hitting the road and doing a clean sweep of Texas. TCU still has some serious work to do to get into the NCAA hosting discussion, but the more it wins and stays near the top of the Big 12 standings, the more likely that scenario becomes. Following the weekend, the Frogs are now 10-4 vs. RPI Top 50 and 14-9 vs. RPI Top 100 with series against Cal State Northridge (197), Kansas State (61), Oklahoma (88) and Baylor (87) remaining. Should the Frogs take three of those four series, things start to get real interesting.
