There’s a good chance that unless you were an area scout in the Carolinas at the time the vast majority of people in the baseball world were not aware of the name Chad Sobotka at this time last year. That’s not say he hadn’t performed well until the summer of 2013, but Sobotka has had to earn his reputation every step of the way. USC-Upstate is not one of the region’s most well known schools, and the big righthander was not a highly known or scouted commodity coming out of the high school ranks. But, when given the opportunity on the biggest of stages in 2013, Sobotka flourished and put USC-Upstate on every scout’s must-see list in 2014.
